“Geometrical girl” — Lakwena studio visit

Coming down the smelly Ridley Market, we stopped in front of the blue gate and waited. Lakwena came down to pick us up and took us all the way to the top floor of this shared block of studios. Faithful to the local area, it was slightly run down, and full of creativity and character.

Lakwena shared her studio with another 4-5 people—a few photographers and a painter. She was currently working on a 3D sign, and showed us small parts of some of the large installations she did. But it wasn’t until I went on her website that I saw what she actually does. Amazing huge works for galleries and buildings, her geometrical and very colourful paintings left an impression on me. She herself is a very charismatic girl, and I’m looking forward to see more of her great art in the future.
